We waren een week in het droogste stukje van South Australia, de droogste staat van het droogste continent op aarde, maar de afgelopen twee weken merkte je er weinig van. Met bakken viel het uit de hemel. De Birdsville Track, ons oorspronkelijke reisdoel is al weken onbegaanbaar, maar ook de Oodnadatta Track werd door hevige regenval gesloten. Na een paar dagen was de gravelweg weer berijdbaar – al stond menig doorgaans droge rivierbedding nog vol water.

And who do you find behind the counter at the local roadhouse…why, it’s a Dutch backpacker of course! It’s a fact of life I am afraid that wherever you are in the world, there will always be a fellow Dutchie (that might also be a somewhat comforting thought, not really sure)
